When was the last time you were able to show off your arms? Not being able to wear tank tops, bathing suits or other sleeveless tops and dresses, and having to wear long-sleeved shirts, blouses or shawls in warm weather are common complaints. If you’re living with upper arms that appear saggy and shapeless, a brachioplasty also known as an arm lift may restore your choice of clothing options and help boost your self-confidence. Heredity, age and weight loss can cause the upper arms to have a drooping, sagging appearance.
While exercise may strengthen and improve the underlying muscle tone of the upper arm, it does not help with excess skin that has lost elasticity. An arm lift can help reduce excess skin and fat between the underarm and the elbow in order to give a more toned and proportionate appearance and contour to the arm. When there is excess fat only with good skin elasticity, liposuction may be an option. Dr. Jill Hazen often uses Vaser® liposelection to sculpt and contour the upper arms.

Do you love the look of leggings, skinny jeans, shorts and bathing suits but not the way your thighs look in them? The thighs tend to be an area of the body that is often overlooked but one that can greatly benefit from Plastic Surgery. During the aging process, the skin loses elasticity, and gravity takes its toll. Many patients who have experienced a significant weight loss through Bariatric Bypass or Lap Band surgery are left with stretched, loose, hanging skin in the thigh area making them uncomfortable with their appearance.
A thigh lift is performed to tighten and contour the upper thighs by removing excess skin and fat producing tighter, shapelier thighs which may be the beginning of a new life. Patients who are bothered by excess skin and fat in the inner thighs should schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Jill Hazen to consider a thigh lift as the first step in eliminating these problems.
Dr. Hazen performs the thigh lift procedure in a hospital or an outpatient surgical center, under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The procedure can take from 2 to 4 hours to perform. Excess skin and fat are removed. Surgery incisions are placed in natural creases so the scars remain inconspicuous and the remaining thigh skin is elevated and tightened. Many patients go home the same day, but some may elect to stay overnight in a hospital facility.
Following surgery the patient is placed in a compression garment to reduce swelling and assist in the natural shrinking and tightening of the skin. Patients should expect to wear the compression garment for at least two weeks. Some swelling, bruising and discomfort should be expected. This is usually easily controlled with prescription pain medication. It will take 3 to 6 weeks for the initial swelling to decrease, although it may take a full 6 months to see your final result.
