The eyes, commonly referred to as the windows of the soul, say a great deal about a person. People often evaluate a person's mood or attitude by the appearance of their eyes. Drooping upper eyelids or puffy bags beneath the eyes can make you look tired or older than you feel inside. Eyelid surgery can also help improve vision if sagging eyelids are interfering with sight. Eyelid surgery also known as blepharoplasty can be used to correct all of these changes giving you a vibrant, youthful and relaxed appearance. Dr. Hazen notes that the average age group to have eyelift surgery may range from the early thirties to the late seventies, making this one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for women and men alike. This surgery can be combined with other cosmetic procedures such as browlifts, necklifts and facelifts.
"The goal of eyelid surgery is to rejuvenate the face by restoring the youthful appearance of the eye says Dr. Jill Hazen. Blepharoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia or intravenous sedation (IV sedation). The incision for the upper eyelid follows the natural contour of the upper lid in the crease and is usually inconspicuous. A thin crescent of excess skin in the upper eyelid is removed and sometimes excess fatty tissue from the middle most portion of the eyelid as well. For lower blepharoplasty (lower eyelift) an incision is placed in the natural simple crease below the lash line. Skin is repositioned and excess fat may be removed or repositioned as well to eliminate puffiness or bulges.
Neither upper nor lower incision requires any contact with the eye itself. When the surgery is finished a lubricating ointment is placed on the incision. The whole procedure can take between one and two hours.
During the first 24 hours following surgery cold compresses are applied to the eyelids to reduce swelling and bruising. Stitches are usually removed within a week of surgery. You will be allowed to return to work in five days, but most people like to wait a week to allow bruising to resolve.
The procedure is as close to pain free plastic surgery as you can get. You may be given a prescription pain medication, but it is unlikely that you would need to use it for more than a day.
Your relationship with Dr. Jill Hazen does not end after blepharoplasty surgery; she will see you often through the first weeks and months following your eyelid lift, and will advise you on all matters in your recovery including skin care, retinols, antioxidants, and sun blocks to maximize and preserve the rejuvenative effects of your eyelid lift procedure.
The lateral browlift also known as a temporal brow lift is an excellent procedure for rejuvenating the outer brow line to restore a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. Men and women showing signs of aging like sagging or low position around the outside of the eyebrow are excellent candidates for this procedure. This appearance can make you appear sad, tired, angry or older.
A lateral brow lift focuses on reversing the droopiness around the eyebrows and eyes to better contour your face. Incisions are placed carefully at the hairline on either side of the forehead. The skin between the excision and the brow is carefully lifted and the extra skin is removed. The lift does not consist of any muscle reconstruction and only involves the tightening and removal of excess skin. A lateral brow lift will not raise the middle of the brow, but it will somewhat alleviate crow's feet (the creasing at the outer corners of the eyes). Lateral brow lifts are ideally suited to prospective patients who are only concerned with the drooping of the ends of the eyebrows. This procedure can be performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid surgery).
Patients may experience some numbness or temporary discomfort for the first few days after surgery. You may also be told to keep your head elevated for 2 to 3 days following surgery to keep the swelling down. Although you should be up and about in a day or two, plan on taking it easy for at least the first week. Most patients are back to work in 7 to 10 days. Most visible signs of surgery should fade completely within about three weeks. Advantages of this approach are the well-hidden scars and minimal numbness of the forehead and scalp.

As the most prominent feature on the human face, the nose is a major contributor to facial balance and an attractive appearance. Rhinoplasty is a procedure where small changes can result in dramatic changes in your appearance and self-image.
Women and men choose to have rhinoplasty for a variety of reasons. The majority of patients are looking to reshape the structure of their nose, alter the shape of the tip or the bridge by removing a bump, narrowing of the span of the nostrils, and/or an alteration to the angle between the nose and upper lip. Some breathing problems may also be improved through rhinoplasty. It is important to remember that rhinoplasty surgery is part art and part science. The artistic part involves Dr. Jill Hazen who listens to her patient's desires for improvement, and then meshes these desires with her skills to obtain the best possible result.
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure which is performed on an outpatient basis under IV sedation or general anesthesia. Surgery typically takes one to two hours to complete.
Recovery typically takes about 1 week; patients may experience some swelling and bruising which resolves over the first month, however you may notice subtle changes for up to 3 months and occasionally up to one year after surgery. Patients are advised to stay in bed with their head elevated for the first 24 hours. Most patients feel like themselves within 2 days and return to work in about a week.
The goal is to create an attractive, aesthetic nose that is in balance with the face, but will also be natural-looking. Dr. Jill Hazen is a leader in her field and believes that plastic surgery is a balance of surgical skill, medical judgment, and artistry.
