The New Beginnings Tattoo Removal Program, supported by the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, offers free removal of radiation marks and branding tattoos for individuals affected by cancer treatment or human trafficking. Hazen Plastic Surgery & Med Spa has participated in this program for more than 15 years, supporting patients with easy scheduling, safe treatment protocols–and above all else--compassion.
What the Program Covers
The program provides laser removal of tattoos for medical treatment or trauma.
- Radiation mark removal: Available to cancer survivors with written approval from their oncologist or radiologist.
- Branding tattoo removal: Available to survivors of sex trafficking who are participating in a recognized recovery or support program.
These services are provided at no cost to individuals who meet the program requirements.

What to Expect From Treatment
Tattoo removal is performed as a series of sessions spaced out in 6-10 week intervals. Using specific laser wavelengths that target pigment, the tattoo is treated without disrupting the surrounding skin. After each treatment, the body begins breaking down the unwanted pigment, and over time, the tattoo will fade. Each appointment is usually less than ten minutes, and there is minimal post-care recovery.
The number of sessions depends on factors such as the size, depth, and color of the tattoo, as well as each individual’s skin response. Plans are adjusted as needed to support steady, safe progress.
