In addition to the passing of time, stress and excessive sun exposure are significant factors that affect facial skin and features. As modern technologies and surgical techniques evolve, they offer an increasingly vast array of options for facial rejuvenation. Surgeries are also performed in various ways in order to adapt to a specific patient’s needs.
One of the popular procedures requested at Hazen Plastic Surgery P.A. is facelift surgery. This procedure, technically named “rhytidectomy,” can be performed as a full facelift or a mini-facelift. Whether a full or mini facelift is needed depends on the extent of excess skin, where the wrinkles, lines, and creases have settled, and Dr. Hazen’s recommendation.
A mini-facelift entails less tissue removal and a lighter “lifting” of the face as compared to a full facelift procedure. A full facelift corrects wrinkles and loose skin from several areas, including the cheeks, side of the face, lower face, and jawline. A mini-facelift may lift the skin and, if necessary, rearrange some of the underlying tissue on either the middle portion of the face or the lower third – not both. The nasolabial folds (“laugh lines”) are one of the most common features of the face that a mini-facelift can improve upon. The full facelift simply covers more surface area of the face than the mini.
The results of a mini-facelift typically last up to 10 years. However, this is based on the patient’s lifestyle as well as their continued aging and genetics. During a consultation with Dr. Hazen, she assesses skin, anatomy, and overall physical appearance while inquiring about your aesthetic desires and expectations. This evaluation will help her create an individualized treatment plan for you, which may include a full facelift or a mini-facelift.
